Hi Foodies!
In the last post we presented a main dish named Mohinga, a Burmese national dish. But, the food journey isn't complete without dessert right? Of course not! Today we will make an Indonesian dessert named Mung Bean Porridge. Personally, I really love this dessert because it can be consumed hot or cold and whenever I go back to my hometown, my mom always makes this dessert. Usually this dessert is served hot because it popular in colder area like in Puncak, West Java. This recipe will take around 1 hour of preparation and 1 hour of cooking time. Don’t worry! The recipe is simple and very easy to follow. This recipe will serve around 4 portions. Let’s get cooking!
- 400g Mung Beans, wash and soak for 1 hour
- 3 Litres of Water (around 10 glass of water)
- 6 Tablespoons of Sugar
- 300 mL thick Coconut Milk
- 1/2 Tablespoon of Salt
- A bit of mint leaves if you like
Pro tip:
- You can add 2 cm of ginger to add a bit of spicy flavor or some pandan leaves to enhance the aroma
- You can use brown sugar too
Method:
- Wash the mung beans thoroughly.
- Soak the mung beans for 1 hour and rinse it.
- Boil the soaked mung beans with 2,5 litres of water until it's cooked and becomes tender.
- Boil sugar with 500 ml of water. Wait until it dissolves. (If you’re using brown sugar, add the brown sugar here)
- After the sugar have dissolved and boiled, mix it with the boiled mung beans.
- Boil the mung beans again and add the mint leaves at around 10 minutes.
- Add ginger (if you’re using it) and salt. Mix well.
