Food Review: "Nasi Uduk" in Enjoy Cafe, Sydney
Hi again Foodies! How's your week? Hope you all have a good week! Mine is pretty busy with a lot of back and forth trip from my place to Sydney CBD. It took me around 40 to 45 minutes by train.
Last week I was craving an Indonesian dish called "Nasi Uduk". Nasi Uduk is an Indonesian Betawi style steamed rice cooked in coconut milk dish, originally from Jakarta. Nasi Uduk usually being served with a piece of fried chicken, fried tempeh or fermented soybeans in block, fried bean curd, fried anchovy and most importantly, Sambal terasi or in English it is called chili sauce that is mixed with shrimp paste.
Because I was in the CBD that time, I remember there were some Indonesian restaurant around the city, one in particular near the town hall. It's located at Sussex St. The ambience is very nice and cozy with relaxing background music.
I ordered a plate of Nasi Uduk for AUD $12. Normal Price for a food in a restaurant. Ok, Let's get it reviewed!

Portion
The Portion is enough to be considered as a meal. But in my opinion, it still a bit small.
Texture, Taste and Fragrance
The most important part of the dish is the rice. The rice texture was a bit dry, Maybe because i'm coming at dinner hour, Nevertheless, it still tasted really good. The rice saturated the coconut milk nicely, and it has a nice pandan smell.
The taste of the fried chicken is good with a good amount of spices. The fried tempeh and bean curd also perfect. The fried anchovy is very crunchy.
The 'Sambal Terasi' was a bit of a disappointment for me. As an Indonesian, i have a high expectation for the 'sambal' part because Indonesia is well known for its 'sambal' and its a Indonesian restaurant. The taste of the 'sambal' was not spicy at all. Instead, it was sweet and lacked a bit of taste. It didn't taste like a fresh-made 'sambal,' but rather a processed 'sambal' that you can buy in the supermarket. Still, the 'sambal' part taste good but did not meet my expectations.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Nasi Uduk" in Enjoy Cafe is pretty good. It has a nice smell and flavour. The add-ons like the fried chicken, fried tempeh, fried bean curd and fried anchovy taste great. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.
For those of you that want to go there for a taste, you can search on google maps for the venue location. Enter "375 Sussex St, NSW" in google maps.
